During my first year of taking Japanese, a group of friends of mine were getting together to watch a movie, Howl’s Moving Castle to be exact. Since I had never seen the movie before, they asked me to watch it too、and I agreed. I thought it was just going to be in English, because we live in the US, but it turned out we were going to watch the Japanese version. I was worried that I wasn’t going to be able to understand anything (without subtitles), but it turned out I had learned enough to understand everything, even without subtitles. It was the first time that I managed to use Japanese outside of class, and it really motivated me to continue doing my best.
