When I was in middle school I learned that I can take Japanese in high school. At the time I wanted to become a game designer since I enjoy playing games by Nintendo, so I decided to begin studying a little before entering high school. At first learning Japanese was intimidating because of the different alphabets and sentence structures from English but I decided to think of it as interesting. I studied at high school for four years. We did fun activities such as writing kanji on whiteboards. Unfortunately I skipped from third level to AP so taking the fourth level class would have see been more beneficial to me.

Despite my experience in high school I took the first year class in my university. I do not find it embarrassing because it offered a new perspective on learning Japanese. Conversation in class is especially valuable because I can construct sentences right away as if I am speaking in English. Second year offered very valuable skills such as conditionals, noun modifications, and ways to express feelings. My motivation has changed then because I decided to pursue software design over game design, but I still see merits in Japanese for the Computer Science field.
